| slhansen's Full Review: Sony SAS BD3 Satellite TV System |
We moved out into the "country" a few years ago and didn't have cable available at that time, so we made do with regular network TV with an antenna (luckily, we live close enough to a major metropolitan area to get 10-15 channels). Once cable became available, we thought about getting it but just kinda never got around to it. Neither I nor my husband really watch all THAT much TV regularly and we'd gotten used to not having movie channels and all the other luxury channels.
Well, the one thing I missed the most was not being able to watch all of the baseball games for my local team, since some were on the "cable" regional sports channel. I *love* baseball, and I always missed getting to see them all even though listening on the radio wasn't bad either. And this year, I've really gotten into hockey and knew I wouldn't be able to watch all of those games either for the same reason. And I had a lot of gift certificates for Best Buy (an electronics superstore) earned through the Beenz rewards program.....so off we went one night, to get us a satellite dish and receivers.
Although the store carried several brands, the Sony seemed to be the best deal. I've always relied on Sony quality and that was reason enough to go with theirs. We bought three receivers (although only two are hooked up, but a third would have cost us $100 more at a later date so we thought we'd get it now), and have one in the computer room and the main one in the living room. The picture quality is great, so much better than a set-top antenna! And now that DirectTV carries local network channels, we can get those with much better clarity than otherwise. The bad thing is they are going to charge $5.95 a month for the four network channels - seems overpriced and we actually still haven't decided whether to subscribe to them or go back to the antenna for those channels.
I'm glad we got satellite TV, and I'm especially glad we went with DirecTV and the Sony receivers. It was very easy to install, my husband did it himself in just a couple of hours. The companies were available on a Sunday for me to call to get the programming hooked up and it was so easy to choose just what we wanted. I would recommend DirectTV, and the Sony receivers, to anyone!
