We bought this Product looking for an alternative to renting movies every weekend.
Ever since I had purchased this receiver I have had nothing but headaches.
I am sure you know that any time a cloud goes by you lose your picture .If you don't. Well I let the secret out of the bag.
Nothing I hate worse than getting involved in a movie then all of sudden you lose your picture. It usually happens on a good part too.
I love this product when it does come in (I said "when" it does come in).
I do not suggest purchasing this product for this reason.
I first purchased my receiver Mar.25 and In July It just quit showing a picture. It read searching for satellite signal on the bottom of the screen.
So, We tried turning the dish thinking maybe it had moved some how, no such luck.
So I called Thompson Electronics(manufacturer of the product). They told me to take it to my neighborhood Radio Shack to test the receiver.
Sure Enough, The receiver was bad .So Thompson Electronics did make it good I had to first send them $10.00 to pay for shipping for my replacement .It took about 3 weeks to receive it so I had to call Directv to get credit for not being able view my subscription.Which they did credit my account.
Well Problem wasn,t quite solved I only had this receiver for 1 month and it did the very same thing. Once again I was off to have this receiver tested . Once again it was bad also . While I was In Radio Shack Another man walked in with his receiver he had same brand and model. I asked him what his was doing he described the same problem after testing, his was bad also.
On behalf of Thompson Electronics they did send me yet another receiver which they paid shipping on since it had only been a month.
I Put cost at $100.00 But if you purchase Installation kit that is another $60.00.
I just received the receiver Yesterday it took 3 days to receive it but I also lost time while checking for other possible problems.
I feel if you spend this much money on a product you shouldn't have this many problems .
Although Thompson Electronics was right on top of sending me a new Receiver I felt This product should be more lasting and not be so sensitive.
When it was working you still can't watch anything if a Storm is brewing.
If I had to do all over again I would not purchase again.
I put purchase price at $100.00 but if you buy installation package it is another $60.00.
This product is fairly easy to program I am one who like to fiddle with digital things so I had no problems programming my dish.
The sound is not the best I cannot turn my volume up when I am using my Directv It is not very loud which is a problem as my husband is hard of hearing.
