| merri_f's Full Review: Hughes Networks D1132 Single LNB DIRECTV System |
We decided to buy a satellite dish when the rising costs and few choices of cable finally got to us. In September of 1999 a Satellite Television company was giving away the Hughes DirecTV system for FREE, as long as you installed it yourself, and signed a contract for atleast 6 months of the $19.99 programming package option. Well, we decided to try it and we'll never go back to cable.
The installation was a little tricky, but we had it up and totally ready to go in about 4 hours. We got a good signal, which surprised me because we live in a rural mountainous area. I was also surprised at the selection. We got the Total Choice package, which includes almost every possible channel with the exception of premium channels such as HBO and Showtime, for $31.99 a month.
Our one satellite also operates an additional receiver, which is in our bedroom. We only have to pay a $5 a month extra receiver charge, and we get the same programming package on both TV's.
About the only cons to this system is their representatives. When we first got our satellite, I was on hold for a long time waiting to get programming, and a woman seemed very rude when I have called on previous occasions. They do try to spring additional and hidden fees, but I have found out what they were and had them removed from my bill in certain instances.
