When I first saw this system I had to have it. Tiny form factor, high tech look and it matched my Sony WEGA Flat Screen. I bought it and brought it home immediately. Setup took about 30 minutes for the most part, it doesn't get much easier then this system. Even the speaker cables are color coded to match the tuner and the speaker itself. As long as your not color blind it will go smoothly.
My troubles began a few days later. The unit stopped powering up and I had to press and hold the power button, holding it for differing lengths of time to get it to come on. The DVD tray stopped ejecting reliably, it began to pull a DVD in and then would hold it and not find the first track, skipping around into infinity. The solution? Unplug it and then start over. I took that unit back to my retailer and picked up an exchange.
The new unit has the same power problem and the Video 1 jacks on either unit never worked ( It might be something I am doing wrong though ). I gave up on returning it and have accepted the problems it has. Thats the bad.
The good? Tiny form factor, its perfect in the bedroom and it stays out of the way. The sound is great, the subwoofer really woofs and the controls are intuitive and very expansive. It even has a screen saver, very cool touch, one of many that this system brings to the table. Having one little pizza box sized system that handles 2 video in's is a huge plus for me. The SVHS out gives me great quality to the Television and it even plays my CD-R discs. I hooked up a switch box to the Video 2 jacks and run all of my gaming systems through it, DreamCast has never been so great!
I am chalking up my problems to 'early adopter' syndrome. I am sure the newer units don't have the problems but before you buy check out your retailers return policy. I am happy with it overall but I would not buy it again. I kind of see this as a 'My First Home Theater' system or a home theater system for that extra room that doesnt rate a multi thousand dollar setup.
