| StUnEnE's Full Review: General Reviews of Cellular One Customer Service |
In March of 2000, I purchased a Nokia 5120 and the 225 minute DigitalPlus package through CELLULARONE. At the time, neither my husband nor I owned a vehicle and I felt better walking around alone with the promise of instant contact should something horrible happen on my way.
The Nokia 5120 works fabulously, the quality of the line was great and I always found the Customer Service Representatives friendly whenever I had a question regarding the phone or my service plan. (That is, of course, until recently.)
In June of 2000, I was issued my license and shortly after bought a vehicle. I figured that being a new driver, having a mobile phone was of utmost importance should I break down or have some unforeseen problem with my car. This meant that the phone would be exclusively mine and my husband would be without it whenever he went to work or to the store. Having this new need for digital service, my husband and I decided to sign up for the Family Talk program offered by CELLULARONE.
When we first signed up for Family Talk, we were a bit short of money and opted for a cheaper phone than our original Nokia 5120. We purchased the Ericsson 4128 phone and looked forward to a pleasant relationship with CELLONE. Boy, were we in for a shock!
Approximately two weeks after activating the phone, we noticed that it became very hot after talking on it for more than two minutes. This was followed by a spontaneous disconnection. It couldn't be the battery as the phone was fully charged. Now, I'm no rocket scientist, but the above happenings led my husband I to believe that something was seriously wrong with the phone.
I called CELLULARONE to report our problem. I stated that I had heard several complaints about the Ericsson model and that I wanted to exchange the phone and purchase a new one. I was told that this was an impossibility and that I would have to buy the phone at retail value. (CELLULARONE sells the phone for approximately $40, I was being told I would have to pay in the $150 range.) I was left feeling frustrated and disappointed.
Being an eternal optimist, I thought to call again and maybe another service representative would be more accommodating. However, this was not the case. Now, three months into our Family Talk agreement, we are left with one phone and a two year contract, which I am about to terminate.
To all those seeking a cellular service provider, please look elsewhere. The customer service at CELLULARONE is fabulous; but only if you don't have a problem with the equipment.
UPDATES: On 07 January 01, I filed a complaint with CELLULARONE using UGetHeard.com. As of yet, I have not heard a reply from the company, but will keep you posted on any developments!
On 08 February 01, I terminated my contract with CellularOne, now Cingular Wireless, due to lack of response or service after many phone calls were made and letters were written from the website UGetHeard.com. When I phoned in, the person who cancelled the account did not seem bothered or intrigued or even cared about my experience with the company and did absolutely nothing to keep hold of my business. I have since entered a one year contract with AT&T Wireless and will let you know how that goes.:)
