| Hornet's Full Review: Sony SAS BD3 Satellite TV System |
The freedom of choice that the Sony SAS-BD3 and DirecTV give you is just amazing! The digital quality that you get is incredible and the signal reliability is so much better then I could have ever imagined. For the price this Sony Dish and receiver is unmatched. The installation was so simple I thought it was too good to be true.
I was a complete skeptic as to how good these mini-dish receivers could be...I saw them demonstrated in stores, on TV infomercials and advertised in newspapers. I was really fed up with the Cable Nazis and finally broke down and purchased the Sony SAS-BD3. I am not the handy man type and was thinking about having it professional installed for $95 but the Sears salesman convinced me that I could do it myself. Well, he was absolutely right.
The Dish came in 3 parts and a single page of very easy instructions. I had it together in less than 3 minutes, no joke. It was that easy. I put the receiver in the entertainment center and ran the cable to the dish through a crawl space under the house (the most difficult part of this whole process). The installation kit comes with a video to help you along too. After everything was hooked up I got my settings for the dish alignment by just typing in my zip code into the receiver through the remote control. The Dish also has a little red LED that helps you track in on the Satellite for optimal signal strength. After just a few adjustments to the Dish I had a signal. I then called DirecTV's 800 number and as I was on the phone with them they activated my programming.
I couldn't have ever imagined that satellite TV would be so easy to install. When I saw the crisp clear picture and the high quality audio I was amazed at what I had been missing! Cable never made my entertainment system perform the way the digital signal of the Sony SAS-BD3 has. The programming and pay per view choices are just amazing!
With the with the Sony receiver hooked to your telephone line (comes with a phone jack adapter) you can click away with the remote and watch pay-per-view hassle free.
I have tossed away my Blockbuster video card since I can see first run movies for $3.99 off the satellite now. This month (Nov) I will get to see The Mummy Returns.... I never got to see that at the movies so here’s my chance. The sporting events are pretty incredible too!
Now that Directv has teamed up with BlockBuster there are deals where you can get a Sony or Phillips dish and receiver for as low as $99 with free installation with a one year programming commitment. Check Directv.com for more information.
I have really put this receiver and dish through a work out since I have owned it. In the time I have owned it I am VERY satisfied with its performance. I have noticed that the receiver is sensitive to static shock so in cooler, dry climates you may have to reset the receiver. This consists of powering it off, disconnecting the power cable for 60 seconds then hooking it back up and turning it on.
If you are tired of getting pushed around by the cable companies, confusing billing plans, poor audio or video quality then get yourself a mini-dish.
