| brak44's Full Review: Aiwa NSX-MT725 Digital Mini Theater System |
I have always been interested in good sound going back to my high school days when I played in some cheesy garage bands (hey, can everybody just stay on the beat...it's AC/DC, not Mozart, ok?) and my first real piece of stereo equipment, an Alpine car stereo, 2 amps with 6 AFS Kriket speakers. Aaah, the good old days, watching the rear window of my Z28 bounce up and down...I have had a component system (Onkyo receiver/Technics cassette deck/Pioneer 5 CD changer & Laser Disk) for the past 8 years that was one of the first Dolby Pro Logic Surround systems, and the dual cassette finally gave up the ghost after my relocation for a new job 5 months ago. I started shopping for a new one, and was about to plunk down $200 for one, when I stopped by Sam's Club (the hoity toity membership version of Wal Mart...membership has it's rewards, dahling...ha ha)and just out of sheer boredom wandered down the stereo aisle and heard this Aiwa system thumping. Once I finally got the radio tuner off the Britsync Aquilara Boys, I found a surprisingly high quality stereo complete with subwoofer and center/surround speakers, 3 cd changer, remote control, variable setting digital surround, and a way rad cool electric blue display panel. There aren't any salespeople in a Sam's but I managed to weasel a couple of demo cd's out of the member services desk, and I put the Aiwa to every test I could think of, expecting at any time for the sound to go buzzing or fuzzing out of proportion, and it didn't happen. After about 30 minutes, I gave up and bought the thing. I hooked it up to my digital satellite, it plays great with no interference, and I'm amazed. I was looking at $200 for a cassette deck alone, and I walked out with a whole stereo under $420 total. I have had it for three months, no problems at all to report. If you are in the market for a compact stereo with a lot of features for a nice price, go listen to this Aiwa. The only faults I've found with it are that the radio tuner doesn't pick up distant stations well, and the remote doesn't operate all the digital sound manipulators. I would highly recommend the product.
