| JeffB's Full Review: Play Snappy Video Snapshot |
If you own a camcorder, you DON'T need to buy an expensive digital camera. All you need is this inexpensive video image capture device called Snappy. It's awesome.
It only costs $100 and it outperforms digital cameras that cost over $1,000.
I’m not a tech-head or a camera-buff, so I was very happy to find out how easy it is to get high quality images using Snappy. You load the software onto your PC, plug the unit (which is about as big as a cell phone) into your computer's printer port, connect the cable to you camcorder or VCR and you're ready to go. Press “record” on your camcorder or “play” on your VCR and when the image you want appears on your computer screen, you click the Snap button. That’s it. If you want to enhance your picture, there are some adjustment options and lots of neat tricks you can do. The results are amazingly crisp and it produces better quality pictures than most digital cameras.
The product literature says it can capture video stills at resolutions of up to 1500 by 1125 in full 24-bit color. Whatever that means, the picture comes out damn good, ready to go on a website or be emailed to a friend (or anything else you want to do with it).
What’s really cool is that you can capture images off your old videos. I’m going to put together a whole web site of my youth football days and surprise my parents.
What you need to use Snappy:
-PC with Windows 95/98/NT or later
-486, Pentium, Pentium II/Pro
-CD-ROM drive
-16 MB RAM/8 MB HD space
-640x480, 256 color or better monitor
You can get lots more info about Snappy at www.play.com/snappy
