WAY BETTER THAN DIRECTV! :)

We'll, I was surfing the net one day and came across the Dishplayer 500. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the price! The system was around 150 bucks, but Dish Network was offering a 200 dollar rebate! So I cancelled my DirecTV account and ordered the Dishplayer 7200.
I've had mine for about 4 months now.. and its been excellent! Getting the thing setup was tricky! I probably spent over 4 hours getting this thing setup .. all because the manual included was WRONG! Going along with the on screen menu, and the manual totally contradicted themselves! The screen would say one thing, the manual another.. no kidding! I'm sure they fixed this by now.. but when I was setting mine up.. it was pretty much just a guess as to what to do next.. it was pretty hilarious really.
The WebTV menu system is excellent! Way better than the DirecTV system I had, which was one of the better systems with 32bit processing. It is very easy to navigate. But.. the best part of it all.. PTV! You have to pay 9.95 a month extra for it... but that's what the Dish Player is all about! You can go into PTV and setup, say Who Wants to be a Millionaire, and have it record every time its on.. its great! You can even watch a program you have recorded on PTV, and at the same time record something else! AWESOME!
My only complaint is the speed and picture quality There is about a 1-3 second delay on changing channels. You see, every time you switch channels, it begins to record to the Hard Drive. So, if you own one of the newer DirecTV model, you will definitely notice.. but I'm used to it now. And as far as picture quality.. depending on what channel you are watching.. they are using a lot higher compression than Directv.. its very obvious! I guess you will just have to see it for yourself.. but im used to it now... and not all channels are as highly compress as others..
Oh and I almost forgot, when I woke up the next morning, I had You Don't know Jack, Solitare, and DOOM (!!) installed on the system! Doom is just like the computer version.. pretty wild! Be sure to pick up a keyboard if you plan on playing it at all.
Anyway, don't pass this up! I could never go back to regular TV.
P.S. The 7100 comes with a 8 gb hard drive which can
store 4-5 hours of programs. The 7200 comes with a 17.6gb hard drive which can store 8-10 hours of programs.. go with the 7200 if you can!
