I bought this product because I was looking for another DVD player to buy for my bedroom. I figured why spend another $300+ for another Sony dvd player? When this one only cost $540.00. And what you get for it is well worth it. Its a dvd/cd and am/fm tuner player that has a built in Dolby Digital, DTS decoder digital amplifier with a 6-speaker system. It was very fast and easy to hook up. A no brainer. This system does sound great. I tested it out with my Gladiator DVD that is DTS ready. Now I will say again that this is really for a small to medium size room. I tested it out in my Living room which is quite large and wasn't powerful enough but it was ok. But this system wasn't intended for a large living room. If you plan on buying this for your apt, condo, bedroom, dorm room this is plenty. And I'm sure you could probably never crank it up anyways. It does get pretty loud and bassy. The bad part is the subwoofer isn't self powered. But what do you expect for $599.00 retail? You want a powered sub then buy it and add it on. But the provided sub is enough. Like I said you will probably never have it that loud unless you live in a house unless you want to get complaints from neighbors and get kicked out from your apt. I love this unit. It rocks in my bedroom and when I bought this I went ahead and bought the Sony Wega 27 inch TV, which is awesome! I recommend this to anyone who needs an inexpensive system for their bedroom and college kids living in dorms or apts. Remember this is a 5.1 dolby digital/dts ready system. It does a great job reproducing the sounds. I doubt you will find something this good at this price by another company. I paid $540.00 at best buy only because I signed up for a Best Buy credit card and they give me 10% off instantly!
