| lorimartinez's Full Review: RCA DS5451RB DIRECTV System |
I live in the sticks, which basically means cable from hell. So, at the first opportunity hubby & I purchased an RCA DirecTV system. We are very pleased!
It was easy to install, and is very easy to operate. I like the fact that we get a good variety of channels, including lots of pay per view options, lots of sports & all of the music channels. I like the TV viewing guide quite a bit, and it is nice to be able to customize it for each member of the family. The search feature is nice too, I use that a lot.
I am also really pleased with the reception. We live in South Carolina, and even during the hurricanes we still got pretty decent reception. Occasionally we lost a few channels, but that was when it was storming pretty good. When the electricity went out, I was watching satellite programming - so the dish was more reliable than our electricity!
We were also pleased that we were able to get three receivers for our different tvs, so we can all watch something different if we want too. It cost more to set up that way, but at least we had the option.
There are several packages to choose from, that fit different budgets, and give us a good opportunity to select what is most important to us. My husband enjoys the hockey package, so he is a happy camper.
There are a couple of things I don't like about the satellite. 1) network programming needs to be viewed with rabbit ears, and I just can't get decent reception for NBC where I live. I know that some areas are getting network programming now, but living in a small area I don't think it will happen anytime soon for us. 2) we receive two separate bills - one for the satellite service and one for the movie channels. I wish they could get it all on one bill. 3) I think that the sports packages are a bit pricey. We got a good deal on the hockey, because I bought it at the end of last season so we got a combination deal. But the football & basketball - gee whiz! those are expensive. So I don't get to see the Bears - gotta watch the Panthers every week on Fox. Oh well, I'll live.
The service is a little more expensive than our cable was, but we have about four times as many channels to choose from so its worth it!
