| Linds81's Full Review: Sharp MD MT15 MiniDisc Recorder |
I bought this product because when I went to Best Buy, they were out of the inexpensive Sony model I wanted originally... THANK GOODNESS! This model is GREAT! Not only is it good looking, it's very easy to use. Plus, it has a minidisc sized case, unlike its Sony counterpart.
I use this MD player/recorder for everything. I use it to record my mp3's, while working out, to record lecture notes and interviews (that's a great thing, by the way. You can have it make a new "track" ever few minutes so it's easy to find things). Recording Mp3's is so easy, just plug the speaker jack into the unit instead of the speakers, find the appropriate recording level, press record and sync, and it separates the tracks for you! I've found that 128kbps recordings work the best, I have to readjust for 192kbps.
I have never had any problems with this unit. It's never skipped a beat, even in the car and it's slid off the seat a few times and escaped unscathed. The finish will mar, however, if a sharp metal object comes into contact with it, but that's normal. I love the display, it tells you anything you'd want to know! I find that the Sony displays, being oblong, limit their usefulness.
Everyone who's seen my MD-MT15 has loved it. It's a great value, and an even better one now. This unit isn't being sold a lot in retail anymore, but you can buy it from Sharp and buy it bundles with a Voquette device to record directly from the internet.
Your best bet is to look for this unit on Ebay. You can get a good deal on a pretty decent MD recorder. I bought mine for $189, and a Sony MD player ONLY is selling for $199.
The only problem I've found with this unit is that it's hard to title the tracks, but that's just a fancy little option. I've titled my discs so that when I insert them the titles appear on the display. Titling all the tracks would be a little tedious.
This is a great starter unit for anyone. You can hook it up to a stereo or use headphones or use it in the car. It's a very affordable alternative for the MP3 addict as opposed to a burner or an MP3 player. The batteries last pretty long even for recording. I'm sure you'll LOVE the MD-MT15 and it's functionality!
