| tfung's Full Review: B&W Nautilus HTM2 Bookshelf Speaker |
The HTM2 uses an extremely unconventional design for a center speaker. Essentially a shorter, wider version of the Nautilus 805 speaker, it has only a single woofer. (Most center speakers have two.) This design gives it essentially the same broad horizontal dispersion pattern as the 805. What's that mean? It means you'll hear pretty much the same sound from the HTM2 no matter where you're sitting in the room. That's not true of most conventional, woofer-tweeter-woofer center speakers (although it is true of many three-way designs, like the HTM1).
The HTM2 shares the 805's 6-1/2-inch woven Kevlar midrange/woofer and 1-inch aluminum dome tweeter. This speaker has a vented cabinet design, and the drivers are magnetically shielded, allowing you to put it on top of your TV without causing picture interference.
