Great for TV, music, and movies - a powerhouse
Jul 27 '99
This sleek, well-designed 200 watt powerhouse is one of my favorite purchases. For about $75 more than I would have paid for a normal small rack system, I was able to incorporate surround-sound into my television-watching experience. With its five speakers, this system provides a great sound both in normal radio/ CD listening but also in watching movies and even TV shows.
It was incredibly easy to set-up. I just plugged the system into my VCR audio outputs and now I watch every show on TV in stereo and it makes a huge difference. I watch most movies I rent in surround-sound and it is a much more enjoyable experience. I didn't realize what I was missing.
Aiwa has many benefits - first, they are well built systems. There is a ton of power and great features packed into a stereo system that fits nicely into an entertainment center. I haven't tested the full 200 watts but it seems to have very little distortion at higher output levels. The controls are easy-to-use, although programming radio channels and the alarm required me to look in the user manual. The equalizer allows multiple pre-set levels or you can manually set your own levels. The Cd-changer allows you to change CDs while listening to one.
It is a very "flashy" system with lots of bells and whistles - it even has a built-in video game. The remote allows you to control the whole unit and I rarely do anything that is not available via remote. I use the system as an alarm in the morning as I can wake up to any CD and song that I choose.
The only downside to this system is that the interface is not completely intuitive and you will have to use the user manual initially to figure out some of the advanced features. Other than that, it's a great purchase for the money. I'm even watching Frasier in stereo these days!
