| smurfytxmom's Full Review: RCA CC4352 VHS Analog Camcorder |
I've wanted a camcorder ever since my oldest child (now 2.5yo) was born. The main requirement in finding one was that it took a full-size videocassette. After 2 years of saving pennies and searching through sale ads, I found one that not only took a full size tape, but was in my price range as well!
This camcorder has a lot of nifty features that I considered extras, since they didn't factor in my decision making. Things like time/date stamp, title, negative image, mirror image (way cool!!), black box (like the movies), and mosaic. It also has really good zoom on it. I was hoping I could get at least 32x, and I ended up with 72x! Count me one happy mommy. =)
It's really easy to use, which is a good thing, since my husband is pretty much machine illiterate. There's a small LCD viewing screen that you can use besides the viewfinder, and the neatest thing about it is that it flips over so others can see. My daughter LOVES this feature! She is constantly telling me to "open it Mommy!" so she can watch herself on TV. I can still see what's being recorded too, since when the screen is flipped completely over, the viewfinder turns back on.
The only problem we've had to date has been with the door. Somehow one of the spring mechanisms that makes the door pop open slid off it's track and now the door doesn't pop fully open on it's own. We have to pull it out the rest of the way. We contacted RCA since the camcorder was still under parts warranty, and after calling around to their "authorized service contractors", found that we had two options. We could either pay $80 for them to give an estimate on how much it would take to fix it, or we could pay $80 to get a reconditioned replacement.
Since the unit is still usable, just tricky to change tapes, and we aren't made of money, we decided we'd just leave it the way it was and live with the inconvience. If anything else happens to it, I doubt that we'll even bother with going through RCA to see about getting it fixed.
