A great solution for a small space/budget

When my husband and I married and merged households three years ago, we found -- to our great horror - that between the two of us, we didn't have a stereo. In fact, we barely had a decent boombox. We had little money, and even less space. But we do enjoy our music, and the JBL Harmony system proved to be a fantastic solution for us.
Frequently promoted as an alternative to the Bose "Wave" system -- but at around $300, much (much!) less expensive -- this (single) CD player, AM/FM radio, and dual alarm clock puts out an impressive quality of sound, especially given the Harmony's small size. The sound is rich, full, and as bassy as you like. Guests in our home have been surprised to realize that the little unit is, in fact, the source of the music in the room.
The Harmony is surely not for the serious audiophile looking for a concert-hall experience, but it's perfect for a small apartment, and would be great as a second system for someone's office or bedroom. Its bells and whistles are few: there's no programming feature by which to rearrange or skip tracks on the CD player, which I do miss. There's also no CD changer, a feature I will look for in our next purchase.
It's beautiful, though. The design is simple and sleek, with all controls organized on the face. A lighted LCD display shows CD, volume, clock and tuner information. The credit card-sized remote control accesses all functions and, as is so often the case, is more useable than the actual controls.
Despite its few shortcomings, I'd recommend this unit to anyone looking for an inexpensive and space-conscious stereo.
