| mom2twinz's Full Review: Hughes Networks D1131 Single LNB DIRECTV System |
We live in a rural area that is not serviced by cable television. In order to receive decent programming, satellite TV was the only option.
The first company we used was Primestar because they were the most affordable. We were very unhappy with them because not only was the dish large and an eyesore, the service never did consistently work. If the weather did anything out of the ordinary, we would lose service, if the wind blew too hard we would lose service. Sometimes all it would take is for the UPS man to pull up and we would lose service. They kept promising to send someone out to look at the dish, but no one ever contacted us.
Then we found out Primestar was bought out by DirecTV, so we asked to be switched over. This was a whole different and positive experience. They installed the Hughes D1131 system, which consists of a very small dish...approx 18 inches in diameter, and it mounts directly to the side of the house instead of standing in the yard taking up space I could be using for gardening.
The equipment works beautifully. So far we have had a blizzard and an ice storm and the service has not faltered once. No glitches, no fading out, just perfectly flawless and consistent service.
Another plus is the receiver is about half of the size of the Primestar receiver, therefore it takes up less space on the top of the television. This cuts down on clutter. The remote has many functions and is easy to use. Ordering a movie from pay-per-view is a breeze, it is just a matter of pushing a couple of buttons.
The only problem we have encountered is that on rare occasion, the system needs to be reset. We discovered this one evening when all we were getting was a blank screen. A phone call to customer service, quickly straightened this out. This is a simple maneuver that involves merely unplugging the receiver and plugging it back in again. We have only had this happen twice and it is easily remedied.
The Hughes D1131 is a great satellite TV system to use. We are very pleased with it's quality and performance.
