| quirt's Full Review: EchoStar DishPlayer 7100 Satellite System |
I own the Dishplayer 7100 and also use a JVC 4700 model in the house. I was experiencing interference on my 4700 receiver whenever the Dishplayer changed channels or when the hard-drive processed info. after being turned off. Heavy pixelization on the 4700 occurred frequently. Finally, Dish sent me a couple of "line compensators" that fit into the satellite in jacks. This has fixed the problem... I just wish that Dish had offered up the fix without me having to go through 2 months of diagnosis.
Another thing that I don't like about the Dishplayer is the noisy hard-drive. If the tv volume is loud enough it isn't a problem, but if you're listening at low levels, the hum is a bother.
06/13 UPDATE
The line compensators mentioned above can also be purchased at Radio Shack. I have seen them but I don't have a part number unfortunately. Also, I have replaced the hard drive in my 7100 with a maxtor 40gig hd. It is now much quieter, that plus the fact that the Dishplayer is now located in a closed stereo cabinet. With the 40gig hd I can record at least 30 hours of programming from Dish. I love it!
