| soupcraze's Full Review: Pioneer PureVision PDP-505HD 50 in. Plasma Televis... |
A long time ago... I thought that HDTV was the best that you could get. After going to my aunts house for a weekend and living in front of a Sony HDTV, I thought that was as much fun as I'd ever have in my life. I was wrong. Anyways my cousin(Mark) invited me to spend the week with him and his wife at her brothers's(John) house. So I went He had 2 entertainment systems in his house. An old system, and the new system which he had recently purchased. I decided to spend much of my evening on his old system, an old Toshiba 27" TV with a nice stereo system. Then after a few hours of playing SNES, my cousin told me to go into the basement, there it was. John's new entertainment system. It was a gorgeous Pioneer Plasma TV, a Sony DVD and VCR, and a Sony Playstation hooked up to it. I turned the TV on to the channels, and spent the rest of my week in front of the TV :) So anyways, here's what I found out with the TV.
Installation:
My cousin Mark is into electronics and he looked at all the ports and cables going through the back of the TV. Everything looked simple. But then he decided to take apart all the cables and try to reconfigure it. He did that all within a few minutes. Everything was a breeze =). Installation shouldn't at all be a problem.
Price:
Many TVs that are also Plasma run in a lower price range than the plasma TVs. The Pioneer PDP-505HD runs around $20000 and they are also VERY hard to find in stores. The Phillips plasma TV runs for less, but I hear it has many more problems than the Pioneer plasma TV. I think with the Sony Plasma TV, you may be getting better quality for the price, but for many hardcore video fans, it's arrival into the plasma market was way too late.
Quality:
This TV is very good quality. Everything about it is great. Pioneer is not as widely known as Sony, Panasonic, or Phillips; but they still make a very good quality product. The screen is built very well and has an incredibly high resolution rate, and the speakers give excellent sound and seem to have no problems. Unlike the Phillips plasma TV, the cooling fans are INCREDIBLY quiet on this TV.
Durability:
This TV is again made to last. It has many quality parts. If it is taken well care of, it will last a long time. In comparison with rear-projection TVs, the plasma TVs are much more delicate, but the durablity from what i have seen on this TV is very good.
Sound:
The sound on this TV is great! It is very clear and crisp. Along-side with the great picture, you won't be able to tell the difference between was is real and what is not! The sound will greatly amaze you, and will enrich a room beautifully with crisp life-like sound.
Video:
The video quality is great for this TV! Japanese anime is GREAT on this television combined with the sound, you'll have lots of fun watching DBZ or something with this. But if you're running older TV systems through it like normal cable, gaming consoles (before playstation), and VCR; the quality wont be at its best. The weaknesses can clearly be seen on this TV, even DVD will lag(quality-wise) slightly on this TV. If you buy this TV, be sure to have satellite or digital-cable to get a good experience with the video quality. The video game consoles wont look very good on this TV either, Playstation in some aspects may lag in quality, and other classic systems wont look good either. N64 and Dreamcast will have the upper-end on quality for this TV. The new future gaming consoles I think should run very well on this TV. But generrally with digital cable or satellite, the video quality will be life-like and VERY real. YOu wont believe it... so real... You'll drift into a whole new world...
Looks:
The TV is flat... that is a selling point for plasma TVs. It will look GREAT in many rooms, big or small. Being flat also means that it will fit into tight spaces and corners. Like some HDTVs, the Pioneer PDP-505HD will look futuristic and very sexy in your house. This is an eye-catcher made to amuse and awe.
The Verdict:
Without much reasonable doubt, this is a great TV with some of the best picture quality I have EVER SEEN!!!! The price is a turn-off though, $20000 is a hefty amount of money for a TV, and many other plasma TVs and HDTVs run for much lower. The buy is safe though, this is a truly high quality product that will NOT dissapoint you. To what I have heard, this plasma TV is much better in performance and quality compared to other plasma televisions. Another setback is that you may need digital cable or satellite to get the full performance that you want. If you have the money and are looking for something that will truly amaze you in every way, buy this. If you don't have this kind of money, go for HDTV.
