I bought this phone after consulting with a friend who repairs electronics. He suggested I stay away from the "Bell companies" and go for a GE. Boy, did he get an earful.
I brought the phone home, charged it overnight as recommended, and could not get it to work the next day. I called the support number and nothing they told me helped. I had to take it back to the store, which was 45 minutes away, and exchange for another phone. My original purchase was in July 1999.
In October, the phone stopped charging. A new battery did not help. My other cordless phone would charge in the cradle, but not this one. We ended up sending it back to the company. I received a new phone in about five weeks - not an email or acknowledgement in the meantime. As of this week, the phone is charging whenever it wants to, but not all of the time. I am very frustrated and will NEVER buy another GE phone.
I chose this phone mainly for the caller id feature that works with call waiting. I like to know if my kids are calling from school while I'm chatting with friends. This is the only redeeming quality of this phone.
You have to go through three steps just to return a phone call from someone who called you, and the ringer is not loud enough to be heard from the next room.
