This cd player has exceptional sound. It is of high quality in that some cd's that would not play in other cd players but would play perfect in this alpine. My only regret to this fine system is the lack of memmory available for track display. You can only store 18 track titles. For someone who has a wide taste in music this is definatly not enough. This is a great cd player but the reason I am a little dissapointed is that if I spent $20.00 more and got the cda-7839, I would've had a remote control and BBE processing. Thats well worth the extra $20.00. But if your the type of person who does not really need a remote and the already exceptional sound is good enough for you than I recommend the cda-7838 over the cda-7839. I paid 269.99 for the cda-7838 which is kinda of high for a in-dash cd player. Its also got cd shutter controls if you want to add a cd-changer.
