| nivi's Full Review: B&W Nautilus 805 |
This is an excellent speaker with flat frequency response, great detail, and a substantial amount of warmth. It also has a large amount of bass for its size. This is a great way to listen to music.
However, my feeling is that the 805 is designed to be good sounding, but not necessarily "accurate". I think most people will enjoy the fact that it is good sounding. But it does not have the sort of clarity that you
would get from a Thiel 2.3 or a Dunlavy SC-IVA and I can't help but
think that this lack of clarity is due to linear and non-linear distortion in the design of the 805.
If you want to hear two speakers that sound totally different, try a Nautilus speaker against the 2.3, the difference is large. For example,
heavy, distorted guitar always sounds heavier through the Nautilus. The Nautilus just sounds warmer. Whether this is more accurate to the source or not, I will leave for you to decide. My guess is that the 2.3 is more
accurate to the source.
I owned a pair of 805's for about 1 year after which I sold them. My next speaker is going to be a Thiel.
