| jasonccusa's Full Review: EchoStar 2710 Digital Satellite System |
The Dish Network Model 2710 is a quality receiver that gives excellent results at a reasonable price. I actually paid only $9.00 for my Model 2710 receiver. My bid on UBid.Com was the winner. After paying shipping of only $14.95 I was in the realm of satellite TV.
I installed the dish myself. The hardest part of the installation was aiming the dish at the satellite. I bought a cheap compass and within 1/2 hour I had a strong signal and was receiving satellite TV.
Setting up the receiver for the do-it-yourself person like myself was a little time consuming. I spent a great deal of time flicking back and forth getting acquainted with the remote and the receiver unit.
The service I purchased is a notch above basic and costs $28.99/mo. My old Media One Cable service was $33.00 a month. The difference between the two is startling!
I receive a higher quality picture with better sound from a satellite 23,000 miles away that I did from MediaOne just down the street. More important are the features of this receiver.
The Model 2710 has all the input/output jacks you'll ever need to create a compete entertainment experience. It includes output jacks to attach to your stereo receiver; supports surround sound, has digital quality sound and allows you to connect to a VCR.
Upgrading my service is also a snap. The receiver comes with a "smart card" that can be changed with service upgrades. The Dish Network offers a 500-channel service package. The Model 2710 receiver supports this package at a fraction of the cost of the premium models receivers.
The only frustrating problem I see with satellite systems is the multiple satellite situations. My subscription service is transmitted by one of three satellites. I want local channels but they are rebroadcast on another satellite. This means that I would have to install another receiver dishes on my roof to gain access to local TV stations.
To their credit Dish Network offers a program where they will install a second dish providing you commit to a 12-month contract for their service. I'm not prepared to make a 12-month commitment for TV at this point in time.
The Model 2710 Satellite Receiver is worth the money to buy but search around like I did. You may get it for almost free.
