| beanbear's Full Review: Hitachi CX Series 27CX01B 27 in. TV |
Synopsis:
The 27CX1B is a solid performer with a flatter screen than most non-flat screen models. It has great quality and will last.
Design/Build quality:
It's nicely styled in a conservative way that wears well. I personally don't like the "swoopy" look of a lot today's 27" sets. It is a bit heavier than other models, which makes it more difficult to move around. Build quality is good and solid. It's been moved around 4-5 times from city to city, with the quality of the movers varying, but it's still in tip-top shape. It takes longer warm up these days, which means the high-pitched whine from the power supply isn't gone until the set is on for about 5 minutes. No big deal.
The remote feels cheap - why other manufacturers can't just copy Proscan or early nineties' Mitsubishi remotes is beyond me.
Picture quality:
Great - very rich and detailed, but definitely one notch below a Trinitron and 1.5 notches below any Trinitron XBR. The colors are vivid and allow a lot tinkering on your end. The details are nice, but not necessarily any better than other sets. Overall, the picture depth "feels" richer than other competing sets no matter how much you play with their controls.
Like most higher-end TV's, it's got the full gamut of inputs including S-Video (very important). No digital inputs, though.
Sound:
Okay, but nothing great; however, it produces decent bass for a TV.
Value:
Very good, if you want something that will last a while and is quite durable. Only "ok" if you're shopping mostly/solely on price and will likely get a new TV in a couple of years anyway.
Recommended:
Yes
