Qualcomm 2760 Dual Band

Dec 22 '00

My cellular phone contract with Verizon expired this past September and I was looking to get a better plan. Sprint PCS started service this winter in our area and I liked their program the best. With the new service I was given a free Qualcomm 2760 Dual Band phone.

Up until then I was only familiar with a Motorola Analog phone. It had worked great for me for a year, but it was time to go digital. The phone I received has a silver face with a large display. It is wider than the Nokia phones, but it is very slim. I have had a couple friends who have Nokias mention how slim it was.

Here are a list of specs:
Dual Band, works on Digital or Analog Service
Battery life of 2.5 hours continuous talk or 96 hours of continuous standby time in digital mode.
Battery life of 1 hour continuous talk or 15 hours of continuous standby time in analog mode.
Phone Book of 99 phone numbers.
10 Different ring types.
One touch speed dial for 9 numbers.
Two touch dialing of 90 numbers.
Three languages (English, Spanish and French)
Weight of 4.3 oz
Dimensions of 5.5" x 2.0" x 0.7"
AC Adapter Charger and Internal Lilon Battery

This phone has everything I could need on a phone except vibrate. It will only ring or mute and will not vibrate. The phone is open face, so to avoid hitting numbers when it's in a purse or pocket, you can lock the keyboard. When a phone call comes in with the keyboard locked you just hit talk to answer it. Otherwise to use the keyboard you hit the lock key and then 1 to unlock. This option is handy because the first few times in my pocket the phone number menu was up when I took it out of my pocket.

The display screen is green with a backlight that you can time to shut off to save battery. The first line displays all your cellular connection options, Digital mode, Roam, voicemail, battery strength. The next 3 lines are for text, phone book, date, time, web browsing, etc. The last line has a menu option and phone book option. It has a nice size display and is easy to use. The backlight timing shuts down fairly fast using the default, so you might want to increase the time before shutting off.

The phone book is great, you can search for a name, scroll through the list by number or by last name. If you remember the number in your phone book you can just one or two key call the number. When you enter the phone number in your phone book, you also enter the individuals name up to 12 characters, but only 8 appear when viewing the list on your phone book.

Other options are call time recording. It will even time your roaming calls versus your home calls. You can set alerts for call drops, minutes of time used if you are in your home service or roaming, message reminder or browser prompt. The alerts are beeps that tell you if you are roaming or for every minute you are using the phone. These alerts are used for when you are using services that may cost more on your cell phone plan. I like the alert to tell you when your phone roams. There is a security option with a lock code. There is also a roaming option that will prevent your phone from roaming. Using this will make your phone keep searching for your home service and not go into a roaming mode.

The phone can also access the wireless web with a 3 line browser. I have not been successful using this option yet. It is hard to navigate the web with a phone keyboard. The last option on the phone is a handy voice mail button, that will access your voice mail with one touch.

I have really gotten to love this phone. I have found two drawbacks, first no vibrate and second the slim phone is great but it's still not as small as some flip phones. But for the price of this phone, you can't go wrong. I plan to write another epinion regarding Sprint PCS.
