Pros: Priced to sell on web auction, Sony quality technology, and wonderful for adding a new dimension to DVD viewing.
Cons: Causes brain damage (not really) and is not portable as sold

I am a BIG fan of Sony. I had been watching the specs on this product for weeks. They look cool. I had great plans, mostly centering around an image of myself, alone in my virtual reality, surrounded by sight and sound. Another re-run of Twilight Zone? No, just my little pea brain getting excited by a concept.
You don't want to know how I bought this product from a starving college student. I was shameless in exploiting his misery and bought them from a web auction site for about half of retail. I waited for the box to appear. When I picked up the box, my illusions #1-#5 were shattered.
#1. Very lightweight. This is a plus when they sit on your face. This is a negative when you are avoiding gadget thieves. Imagine my sigh of relief when I found the item in the box after all!
#2. The PORTABILITY. This is a much advertised notion. These glasses, with my portable DVD player would get me through one or two cross country airport marathons. Cool. But alas, it comes without battery pack. The extension cord is long but doesn't connect North Carolina with Seattle. Sigh. Another expense.
#3 I IMMEDIATELY GRABBED BY S-CONNECTION and hooked up to the DVD player to watch MATRIX for the fourteenth time. NO SOUND. Nuts. I had to read the manual to figure this out. At first though, I merely hooked up my earphones, on top of the glasstrons. Add a straight jacket and I would have been at home in any loony bin in the country.
#4 SEEING the picture. Nuts again! I wear glasses to correct an astigmatism (and also to hide the bags under my eyes) One minute without the glasses and the headache began to throb.
#5 COMFORT-More technology needed. I am learning, again by reading the manual, some of the adjustment tricks.
#6 SAFETY-Not until you get this item home do you read the warnings. NOT FOR CHILDREN UNDER 15!!? While this isn't me, an alternative use for this device would be letting the nieces watch movies quietly while the adults are talking. Nix the babysitter function then.
******
The cautions provided are slightly amusing. Did you know you could kill Uncle Bob by providing him TOO REAL of an experience with his heart condition? (I think it is more likely to kill him if someone asks him for money!) The experience of these glasses is pretty cool, but the edges aren't sealed. I could read a book and watch TV simultaneously in the gaps. "Avoid wet, humid, dusty and smoky environments". Huh. That eliminates MY house, the bathroom, the beach, and any place I might WANT to go.
"Avoid direct sunlight, mechanical shock, high temperatures." That eliminates taking this out in the daylight. Being a night person this doesn't bother me, but I can envision an army of pale night stalkers wandering around lost in their own virtual reality. "Do not swing the product by the Side pieces". I had never even considered that entertainment possibility until this very moment.
These are the good aspects of this product, though:
1. Excellent picture quality, worthy of the Sony Name.
2. Excellent surround sound quality when used as directed.
3. Good cover disguise, if pretending to be Stevie Wonder.
This item is not for everyone. For those few of you who want the big screen experience without leaving your armchair, this is your accessory! A word of caution though. If you close your eyes the picture goes away.
