| Dbrain's Full Review: Sony Handycam CCD-TR517 8mm Analog Camcorder |
The Sony CCD-TR517 is one hell of a camcorder. First lets start With the price, This baby is being advertised in National Store chains such as Curcuit City and Best Buys For as low as $289 American. Based on the 8MM format, it Gives a much Sharper image Than VHS or VHS-compact.But keep in mind that with the 8MM format you will need an 8MM deck or else you will have to play all your movies you shot with your camera all the time leading to some possible long term wear and tear on the unit. I will say this though, The image Quality from the 8MM format and this unit as well is sharp and crisp enough that you can make excellent copys on to VHS with very little loss of picture quality. This is of course if your VHS is a high quality unit. The telephoto zoom on this camera is very powerfull at a maximum of 20x optical and 200x digital. The unit has multiple special effects available, auto and manual capability for added creativity on your part. IT has an amazing 0 lux capability with night infrared shooting, that compleatly blew my mind away when I first tried it! It also has multiple exposure settings that are fully variable for very precise color and light balance. As well as all this, this baby runs off Hi energy Lithium cells that give you up to an unheard of in the camcorder world of 21 hours of nonstop shooting with one charge! With the smallest Lithium battery(the one supplied)you still get 4 hour capability! The unit has a good grip feel to it that helps in taking real steady shots. And last but not least it has the look and feel of a Quality Sony Camcorder That the other models I sampled at the store just could not match.
