I just watched my old video tapes that we took of our son (who is now 4 years old) as he grew out of babyhood. I am so glad we had our Sony Camcorder to do this! All those great moments that made me smile and laugh are priceless. I was also able to watch my dad and hear his voice; he died 2 years ago, and it was nice to remember him with visuals and audio.
I really like our Sony Camcorder. It has a lot of features that allow you to make very professional looking video. You can zoom in up to 12 times, adjust for backlight, fade in and out, solarize, or make the image negative. You can auto date the tape, or have it show throughout the taping.
This versatile little camcorder also allows you to replay and edit the tape in the camera using the viewfinder. I like that feature because I can back up and tape over a segment that I don't like. The color viewfinder is a great feature as well because it's nice to see what the shot looks like in real life as opposed to seeing it in black and white until you get to play it back on the VHS. The only thing I like in the newer models is the viewfinder in now an LCD screen so you don't have to squint through an eyepiece.
I have taped through the camcorder using the VCR. The Sony Camcorder comes with hook up wires to connect to the TV, and you can tape the super 8 video to a regular VHS tape. This is really great because I can give copies of special occasions to my family, and have them vicariously share in the moment with us.
The buttons are easy to use, too; they are well placed and you don't have to fumble around to find the record button. The wide angle/telephoto lens operate with the push of a toggle button also, and you don't have to search for that one either.
As with most Sony products, this camcorder is durable and solid. We have had it now for almost 4 years, and it's been through a good amount of abuse. It has been dropped, left on, jiggled, left in a hot car, and bounced around in luggage. The only repair it has needed was to fix the sound when I dropped it. It has never failed due to bad design or poor craftsmanship. The battery lasts about 2 hours or so, which is plenty for most events.
I highly recommend the Sony CCD-TR76 camcorder for the average person who wants to record life's events. It's easy to use, versatile in its features, and compact enough to take everywhere!
