Longest lasting VCR!
Mar 02 '00
First, I am not sure of the model number of the VCR my parents bought, but I really felt the need to discuss Mitsubishi VCR's in general.
My parents purchased their VCR in 1990. I know it was an eight head VCR and back then that was a big thing. They paid around $900 for this product. When they first bought it I thought they got ripped. It was just a VCR and since I was almost 16 at the time I wished they would have bought me a cheap car with that money. I later began to love this VCR and missed it when I moved out a bought my own cheap VCR.
Pros:
1. Loads of features! This VCR had everything. I swear you could just about program the thing to cook dinner (well, almost.) You could set it to tape movies a year in advance. You could set it to tape a program at the same time every week. Everytime you began to tape something, it put a little tab there so that you could rewind it or fast forward it to the next movie with ease. This VCR also had an option to hook it up to another Mitsubishi VCR to be able to record movies from rentals without that annoying change in color or sound. There were loads of other features I can't even think of now.
2. Heavy duty. This thing survived everything. We moved about half a dozen times with this VCR. My brother was four when my parents purchased it and it survived everything he poured into it (from sandwiches to soda pop.) Plus, looked and felt like high quality.
3. Long lasting. My parents still have and use the VCR today. It is not as nimble as it once was, but it still plays and records beautifully. The only real problem it has now is it must be cleaned more often and some of the button symbols have been rubbed off because of excess use. For me this isn't a problem because I still remember what all the buttons do from their position.
Cons:
1. This one was expensive. $900 in 1990 is even more money now (duh, like you didn't know that right?) so this may put it out of reach for some.
2. A lot of features that take a while to learn. For me, I learned how to use it in about an hour, but I pick things up like this easily. My parents still don't really know how to use it. I have been out of the house for 8 years now and they either have to call me to find out how to use it or they have to ask my 14 year old brother.
To anyone looking into this brand of VCR, I would suggest it. It is a little pricy, but with how long this one lasts it is worth it.
