I personally have a Motorola StarTac and have to highly disagree with the opinion posted by "abutov." I have had it for more than a year and it beats the hell out of the 3 other Nokias I have had in the past. Not only is it small, but it's performance well outweighs any Nokia I have ever seen. I also have to comment on the complaints that this person has. Considering the phone is very small and made of plastic it may not be the most durable on the market, but it also would be a good idea to take care of it. The only way I can see any "cracks developing in the joint" of the phone is if someone was trying to squeeze it between their ear and shoulder for those long gossip talks to the girlfriends back home. I know this site is all about personal opinions, but it is also important to take in consideration the source of the opinion and how the product is used.

A case of "exception proves the rule"? (Reply to this comment)

I'm sorry that Abutov had such an awful time with the StarTac 7760. I have owned one for a year now, and have given it hard use. I use it daily, carried it on a belt holster for about five months, have carried it in my pocket unprotected for about seven months, and have dropped it and seen it jar so badly the battery popped out at least five times. I also use the clip-on organizer with it.

After all that, I am having only two problems, and both are intermittent and managable. A) Sometimes the earpiece doesn't turn on when I open the phone. This is a physical problem...the connections are degrading. However, the plastic casing is not cracked....not even scratched, which is odd, considering the abuse I've given it. B) Sometimes my homebase charger won't make contact.

Well....I've found a little tapping and a little nudging here and there keeps things going.

My advice to Abutov and anybody else is simple: get some insurance. These things aren't made to last more than 12 months, and you'd just be smart to get the insurance plan that your carrier probably offers. Mine costs less than $4.00 a month...paltry compared to the rest of the bill. :)

I've been impressed with the ST7760 and will soon be upgrading to the ST7860, which comes with my new 2-year contract.
