| gpatters's Full Review: Sony KV-32XBR250 |
Recently my 20-year-old Zenith television bit the dust. I guess it's too late to use the extended warranty! I replaced it with a new Sony Triniton Wega X32BR250. This is a 32 inch analog TV with the best picture I've ever seen. I own a 17" Sony Triniton monitor so my experience with Sony is certainly biased. My monitor still has a clearer picture than do any others in my experience.
After researching the net and all the local dealers for TVs, I found this one at a local dealer on sale. I also read many epinions about TVs before making my choice. Thanks to one particular epinion by TecDemon, I decided against the Sony KV-32FV15, which was the other model available and on sale. The X32BR250 did cost approximately $400 more, but I couldn't be more satisfied with my purchase.
A Few of the features of this WEGA (Vega)
· 32" Flat Screen
· Trinitron Picture Tube
· 3D Digital Comb Filter
· Trinitone Color Adjustment
· 30 watt Sound System
· Wireless Headphones (I really love these so I can watch TV while my husband naps.)
· Picture-in-Picture
· Parental Control Ability
· Easy to Use Remote with a tiny Joystick for tuning
· Energy Star Compliant
· Power Consumption, Maximum 200 w
· Weight = 176 lbs. (It's best to have this set delivered because of the weight, and the box is massive.)
The TV Stand
I also purchased the stand that is made for this TV. It is very sturdy with glass doors. It has one adjustable shelf and plenty of storage space. On my top shelf, I was able to stack my new DIGITAL CONVERTER on top of my existing VCR. There is still space on the sides of these two items for storage. I do not have a DVD player, but one could easily be used with this TV and its stand. You can glimpse a photo of my TV on my profile page. The TV "cartoon picture," of course, does not do it justice. I just wanted you to have an idea how you could set one up for yourself.
The new digital converter was installed on the same day as the TV was delivered. Imagine my surprise when I walked into the room that evening to see an old segment of "Combat" in glowing color. Vic Morrow never looked so good. My husband always LOVED "Combat," but my feelings were just the opposite. Now he can watch it every night! Oh well, sometimes you have to take the bad with the good.
Fine Tuning the Picture
The TV has four factory-set modes for the picture. I've found that fine tuning the picture is best done while in the MOVIE MODE. We are so use to tuning our TVs while in bright rooms that the TV may seem too dark to you at first while in the movie mode. You can also call Sony and order the service book on your set at 1-800-222-SONY. Another option is to rent the "Video Essentials" DVD and calibrate a new TV. Please don't take this information as if I am saying the picture is bad. It certainly is not! It is extremely clear and beautiful.
The Cost
The cost of the TV is approximately $1600 and the stand approximately $200. Be sure to check for sales.
.............
I highly recommend the Sony Triniton Wega X32BR250. I am getting a wonderful picture from regular TV channels, digital channels (even Combat, argh), and videos from my VCR. My wish list includes a DVD player, but the video "Shane" looked fantastic on the TV recently.
Please take a moment to leave me a comment. I love comments!
