I've had cellular service for about 10 years and had never changed providers. My providers changed over the years, due to buy-outs, mergers, etc., but I never had any complaints about service or reliability.
Then I used a friend's Bell South digital phone and I couldn't believe the difference in clarity. I compared the cost to my cellular plan and was impressed. But it was a small detail of life, nothing urgent or important enough to make my "to do" list.
Then I moved. My house, which had been on the market for almost 17 months, sold suddenly (sudden seems like the wrong word after 17 months). By suddenly I mean that the offer was contingent upon us being able to move out of the house within 13 days! And Christmas was in the middle of those 13 days! I needed to sell the house, so I took the offer and we went into hyper-pack mode. So hyper, in fact, that I forgot to call the phone company, the electric company, etc., until three days before the move!
Bell South is my local phone service provider and has always provided excellent service. Unfortunately, the home we were moving into did not have phone connections and the earliest that installation could be scheduled was a week later. That would leave us 5 days in our new home without phone service, which I found unacceptable. And our cellular phones wouldn't work outside of the car without buying expensive new batteries - and they were nearing the end of their useful life.
The Bell South representative recommended Bell South Mobility as a solution. I went to the Bell South Mobility store, heard about the plans and packages, and decided it was time to enter the world of digital wireless service and leave the cellular world.
I'm so glad I did!
The Phones And The Plans
Bell South Mobility was offering Ericsson phones for $1.00. Sold! It's small, reliable, and easy to program. They also had deals on other phones, but the Ericsson met our needs.
Monthly plans offered with rollover minutes were 150 minutes for $25 and 350 minutes for $35. That includes ALL calling, including nationwide long distance. I have AT&T for my long distance, but I don't make many calls that are considered long distance. I do, however, make a lot of in-state calls that are not considered local, so Bell South Mobility will save me money on extended calling area calls. For my mother, who makes a lot of out of state long distance calls, Bell South Mobility will save her money on long distance.
I took the 150 minute plan; Mom took the 350 minute plan. Additional minutes on both plans are $.25, so we'll be careful to monitor our usage. We can switch plans at any time during the 11 month contract period and unused minutes each month roll over to the next month. That's a money-saving feature our cellular provider did not offer.
Quality
Call quality has been excellent, with none of the static and fading that was common with our cellular phones. Whether calling a local number or a number across the country, the sound is perfectly clear. We've had no trouble with access or availability.
Bell South Mobility Service
We charged our new Ericsson phones as soon as we got home with them, the night before the big move. The next morning we kept the phones with us and I packed the chargers away. Somewhere. I still don't know where. Two days later, with both batteries nearing extinction, I went back to the Bell South Mobility store to purchase new chargers. I explained what had happened and they gave me two replacement chargers - at no cost. I can't remember the last time I experienced such friendly service.
Our Life Line
Five days without wired telephone service and we've been available to everyone who might need us thanks to Bell South Mobility. And we've been able to make all the calls we've needed to make. I have changed the school information for my sons to show my Bell South Mobile number as my work number, so regardless of where I'm working, the school will be able to reach me. And now, whether my Mom is home or not, the school has a number to reach her. No more digital pager, no more static filled cell phones - one number does it all.
Bell South Mobility is excellent and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for quality wireless service. I live in Greensboro, North Carolina, which epinions does not have listed as a Bell South Mobility service area, but trust me - it's available! And it's great.
And their customer service is the best I've ever experienced.
