The description that Epinions has about this lens is incorrect. This lens does not have the Silent Wave motor. This lens is loud during focusing and has a lot of play in the rotating front barrel compared to my other Nikon zoom lenses i.e. MF Series E 36-72 and AF 35-105. I was surprised as to the poor quality feel of this lens. Part of the lack of quality feel was probably due to the lack of a metal lens mount. It looks like the same material as the lens itself, polycarbonate. I own several AF and manual lenses from Nikon and this is the first one that doesn't have a smooth operation to it or a metal lens mount. At least the pictures it takes have enough contrast and clarity to pass for most people I believe. I have enlarged pictures of friends to 11x14 and received compliments from them. I would only recommend purchasing this lens if you can get past the quality feel of this lens. Thank goodness the pictures it takes are fine. This lens is inexpensive and light. Perfect to take when traveling. I can now see why this lens is usually part of a starter kit for the N range of Nikon cameras. For Nikon, it's an inexpensive lens to provide, for the consumer, the picture quality is definitely better than a P&S.
