Will and Grace
NBC
Tuesdays, 8pm/CST
Will and Grace is a show about the relationship between a gay man, Will Truman (Eric McCormack) and a straight woman, Grace Adler (Debra Messing), their friends and romantic relationships.
Will is a successful New York lawyer who is out of the closet even to his boss, played by Gregory Hines. Grace owns her own interior design business but seems to be out of the office more than she works.
The viewer is privy to the problems that sometimes occur between two people who love and adore each other and could probably have a great romance except for the fact that one is gay and the other is straight. The relationship between Will and Grace does provide some light humor.
The real stars of the show are Jack McFarland (Sean Hayes) and Karen Walker (Megan Mullally). Jack is one of Will's closest friends (gay and outrageous) and Karen (straight and outrageous) is Grace's assistant who doesn't need to work. Her sole purpose in working seems to be entertaining herself at Grace's expense.
The relationship between Jack and Karen is really unique. Its a love/hate relationship but they truly adore each other. Their friendship is probably as deep or deeper than that of Will and Grace. I can see the two of them sitting on a bench in the mall mocking people and talking about "look at that tacky outfit" or "girl, did you see the shoes she was wearing?". And then laughing so hysterically they cry.
The laughs that will make you spew your drink result in the interaction between Jack and Karen. Last week's episode revolved around Jack and Karen doing a Public Service Announcement about sexual harassment. The two of them ended up enjoying it a little too much for the director. In fact they continued the scene of harassment after the shoot was over. When you finish watching the program you will compare the two of them to people you know....or that you wish you knew.
Will and Grace are great to look at but if you want laughs, its Jack and Karen that will keep you entertained. So why are Will and Grace the main characters? I guess they producers named the show and were stuck with it.
