I bought the sony mini-disc bundle as a recommendation from a friend,
and I have been very happy with it. The component may not have all the
extra features that the more expensive models have, but I feel that the
addition of the portable unit really makes up for the difference. It allows me to take the minidiscs that I record at home out jogging or in the car. The portable player has NEVER skipped on me, even jogging on hard pavement. I have no complaints about the component either, but I am fairly new to the world of mini-discs and I don't know too much about the competition. Anyone who is interested in getting a head start in the world of mini-discs should buy this.
