| mbcoop2000's Full Review: Iomega Hipzip 31311 40 MB MP3 Player |
I have been nibbling at the edges for months now for an MP3 player. I have been downloading files, crunching CD's and playing around with MP3's for a few years, but never got serious about a player until recently.
I evaluated and angsted over many of the MP3 players. Size, sticks, cards, looks or what?
Should I get a 32 Meg and low cost device? Should I spring the big bucks for a Sony with a memory stick? Should I get ones with removable Flash memory? Should i go all the way and get the Creative Nomad with its built in hard drive? (It will ultimately be the answer when more $$ are allocated to this area!)
After spending hours in Circuit City and Best Buy looking at dozens of the machines, I finally made the decision for Iomega.
Why?
1. Rechargeable batteries - These music machines eat batteries. One with a built-in charger made more sense -- and save money in the long run.
2. Easy change memory. With the easy click-in disks, it's like changing a tape cassette (remember those???) ... in fact, it's easier and you can carry around dozens of these little things in your briefcase, allowing you to have hours and hours worth of music available at any time.
3. Cheap memory. At less than $10 per 40 minutes, you can't beat the price for the little Click-disks.
The bad:
a) Big-ish unit, but really not a big deal for a walk or run. Clips onto a belt, or fits easily into a pocket.
b) Earbuds - Yuk! get a new set.
My eyes are also needing upgrading (read a future review!) and I do have difficulty reading the little screen that says what tune is playing.
But overall, I am extremely happy with the Iomega and would highly recommend it as a simple purchase for someone who doesn't want to be constantly connected to his or her PC to update the music!
Recommended:
Yes
Amount Paid (US$): 240
