One of the Best Values in Red Dot Scopes

Written: Jun 11 '00 (Updated Jun 11 '00)
Pros:Value for money, Good construction, Bright 7.5 MOA
Cons:Stiff adjustments, Poor dust covers.

First Impression.

After scouring the web, I settled on a matte black 1X BSA Red Dot Scope for my airsoft rifle. The scope is well constructed and comes with one year guarantee. This BSA has a 3mm tube, comes with a bright 7.5 Minute of Angle dot (MOA) and is powered by a 3volt 'coin style' lithium batteries type 2032.

The BSA also has a windage and elevation adjustment feature. The Rheostat has 11 position options for varying lighting conditions. The forward looking lense is yellow coated and the rear is coated in cool blue.

A cleaning cloth, set of instructions, a pair of non-flip up scope covers and batteries are included. The scope also comes attached with a standard weaver mount (a standard dovetail mount is also available).

Pros.

The BSA is easy to operate and the 7.5 MOA offers good contrast even in bright Summer weather. I recommend lowering to a 3 or 4 MOA for night use as too high a level would tend to distract you from the target.

The scope size is also more than adequate for quick targeting. With a little practice, I've learn to aim with both my eyes open without any difficulty. In addition, the optical quality is clear and sharp; about above average but not spectacular.

Cons.

The BSA dust covers are not practical for field use and are only good for storing the RD30. I would recommend getting a pair of flip up dust caps.

Adjusting the windage and elevation on the BSA RD30 is not easy. You need to unscrew the adjustment caps and use a flathead screwdriver to twist the rather stiff adjustments.

Conclusion

If you are looking for a low cost, practical and effective scope for short range target shooting, I would recommend taking a look at the BSA RD30 Red Dot Scope. You should be able to get one for less than $40.00 including shipping and handling.
