Thanks for your comment on my XL-1 review, proadvance. Yes, the Sonys are great too. Honestly, my main attraction to the Canon was the interchangeable lens capability, a capability that proves to be an expensive one. As far as the Sonys looking less pro- under some "verite" conditions, that can be a plus. In one sense, the Canon seems to call attention to itself a little too much. (cause for worry on Manhattan streets when I'm alone) Once, when I asked a camera salesman the difference between the Sony and the Canon, he said: "That's easy. The Canon's red and the Sony's blue." He's right (talking about the picture, of course). Canon seems to have added a little magenta to the color balance- a matter of taste. And Sony has a great pro line of 3 chip mini dv, also. Three chip mini dv will continue to be a low budget/ independent format. The video revolution is beginning to affect the majors too; but there we're talking about HD (High Definition) video. Majors are also shot on Digital Beta (another pro format).
