Great Picture, High Price

As many others have written here, I too had cable(and continue to for local channels), and love the picture quality of DirecTV. The major down side is the price: 1 receiver and Eliptical dish $350, Installation to two outlets $290, monthly service $30-$90. I really bought the system to get NFL Sunday Ticket, if cable companies ever get this option, DTV better look out! My area offers digital cable so I already had the luxury of on-screen guides, actually the cable company on-screed was better than DTV is. And when it storms you loose your picture, a light rain is ok, but if your having a downpour or thunderstorm you better have a book handy until the storm stops!
Granted, I spent the extra on the eliptical dish which is capable of HDTV signals when I buy a digital TV, but the monthly price for service is what is really the drag. For most areas DirecTV offers local channels of ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS & Fox, but not does not offer local independent stations. So I'm stuck paying for basic cable at $10 a month. If you don't care about local independent stations, you can get the major networks for an additional $5 a month on top of your channel cost which is $22-$90, depending on if you want movies. Getting the $22 package is a joke, you have to get the $32 package to get a decent number of channels. If you add movies your looking at $42-$72/month.
Then of course if you want to watch more than one TV with DTV on it, you need to buy a second receive and make sure you have a dual LNB dish, plus they stick you for another $5 per month for activating and using the second box!
Bottom line is the picture quality is great, cost is high. If you can deal with the high price, it's great. Otherwise stick with cable and save your money.
