| Triedit's Full Review: Cambridge Soundworks Model 88 Mini System |
I have always enjoyed "Radio's". Even as a child, I have been fascinated with the radio. I own many and would probably be considered a collector.
I had received one of those promo. cards in the mail wanting me to purchase the Bose Wave Radio. I had been amazed by the sound that I heard from one of the units and thought I would try one.
My wife and I enjoy going camping and we had attended one of the large R.
V. shows in Dallas and several of the larger motor homes were equipped with Bose equipment. I noticed that a small wave radio was in the back bedroom of one of the RV's and it had very good sound. 1/14/03 Good News! A new unit is in the works and should soon be available from HiFi.com. I understand that the new unit should be even better. Hard to imagine that. I will probably have to get one to see. Mine is still sounding as good as it did when I purchased it. I will certainly be keeping the one that I have. It is a Keeper!!!
Ok, my mind was made up to order the unit and I suddenly thought I would go to the internet and see what was being said about the unit. Not knowing anything about the Kloss 88, there was much more information about the unit than the Bose. Most seemed to prefer the Kloss over the Bose. I was familiar with the Kloss name and the products he was responsible for. After seeing the price difference and all of the positive comments, I ordered the Cambridge SoundWorks from their online store.
I ordered the slate unit and have had the unit for a week. When the package arrived, I was amazed at the weight of the box. I opened the package and the unit has been on ever since. The sound is amazing. Very clear and distortion free. No hissing treble or clipping bass. I will surely not return this unit. As a matter of fact, I may order the 88CD later. The receiver tunes in distant and local stations with ease. The short included wire antenna is all that is needed to pick up the stations I usually listen to.
I find the unit to be very well engineered and assembled. The metal speaker grills are a nice touch.
This would certainly be a great kitchen, bedroom or office radio for mom or dad. It would make the perfect gift for either sex at any age. This is definitely not a wimpy little clock radio. I believe the unit is well worth the price of $149.95.
