| Akula's Full Review: Infinity RS-2 |
Choosing the right speaker for my home theater setup was the most difficult and time consuming part of the adventure. I visited high-end audio stores in the Seattle area as well as Circuit City and The Good Guys. I listened to dozens of speakers before settling on the Infinity RS-2 model.
I use these speakers primarily for home theater rather than purely stereo music. I use the RS-2 for my front and surround set along with the Infinity CC-2 for the center channel and the Infinity BU-150 Subwoofer. This setup has provided excellent balance to my system.
The first time I put in the "Eagles: When Hell Freezes Over" DVD in DTS I was blown away. I have a medium sized room and these speakers sounded ever better than in the demo room at Circuit City. I could not believe how crystal clear sounded. Each pluck of the guitar comes through. It's a feast for your ears. I am still amazed with the clarity. I was worried that they might sound a little on the bright side given their smaller dimensions, but I've been surprised at how well they image concert DVDs to "Jurassic Park" in DTS.
Each speaker feels very well made. I notice that Infinity has gone to great lengths to ensure a quality build with their products. I've checked out speakers costing twice as much as these yet still didn't have the "Oomph!" I was looking for. If you are looking for a nice set of stereo speakers make sure you listen before you buy. I doubt there is another stereo component where personal preference comes more into play than with speakers.
The only minor issue I've had with these speakers has been with the front cover. It feels well made and sturdy enough yet it's still just a little to easy to remove. Otherwise I have been very impressed.
I am very happy with my purchase and would highly recommend Infinity speakers especially those with tastes geared towards home theater. Some of the best prices I've seen on the web for this model have been on Mercata and UBid.
