Just today my husband and I had our new Dish network installed. It is the Echostar 7100, the latest promotion. We were excited about the service because we have had Direct TV until now, and we were not very happy with them. So, this new model comes with a myriad of great features. It has Web-TV capabilities, which is nice, but we already have a computer so we won't be using that. It has "Personal TV", which is like TiVo: you can record up to 8 hours of programming without using your VCR and a tape. The system does it all by itself. That is quite neat, although we haven't tried it yet. We also get all of the premium movie channels for free for 3 months. That's a bonus! And the quality of the sound and picture are excellent!
So, what's my "dis" you ask? Well, we were mislead. We were told that we would put the $199 on our credit card and then receive a rebate within 6 to 8 weeks. And We were told that we could receive local networks (which we could not with Direct TV). Also, the man was supposed to install the system at 2:00pm (when my husband was home from work). So, it sounds great! Then at 11:00am, as I am walking out to my car to go to the grocery store, the installation man shows up. I figured at least I could get it done before my husband gets home and he will be surprised. He was surprised alright! It turned out that I had to give the guy a check for the $199 plus tax (which we had not figured into our budget since they told us it would be on the credit card), then after the guy leaves we find out that we don't get NBC or local programming! My husband called them and they said that we will have to file waiver forms to see if perhaps we can get NBC in 6 to 8 weeks. What a rip-off!
I'm sure that this system is wonderful and has great features, but what about us? What about the American people that companies continually rip-off just because they can? I'm sick and tired of big business promising us one thing and delivering something totally different!
