A Good Phone But does it really need All This

Pros:900MHz, Voice Dial, good quality over long distances from base
Cons:poor battery life, useless features, voice dial can become more annoying than useful
The Uniden EXV98 has a lot of nifty little features that are cool to play with but are really unnecessary for a cordless.
Let me start by talking about the good features
The EXV98 is a 900 MHz phone that has an exceptional range when compared to other 900 MHZ phones (you would think they would all be the same).
The phone can hold up to thirty numbers, with a unique new function to phones. On this phone you can say the persons name and it will dial it for you. That's right when you store a number you also store the persons actual spoken name.
Other features include a 40 channel scanner for best quality at all times, as well as a monitor mode for listening to calls without actually holding the cordless to your ear.
Not Everything is Sweet in Candyland
For one thing when you do decide to use the voice dial function, it has trouble understanding other people trying to use the function and for the most part will not work. Also you need to say the name exactly every time. Remember Jennifer is different then Jenn so you have to remember the names you said. On top of that it gives a dialing confirmation for the number it is dialing by repeating the number to you. Sometimes it is just faster to dial the number yourself. An added feature that just takes too long to wait for. At least if you can't get the number that you programmed in by speaking into the phone you can use the review mode to locate the number manually.
I also feel if it is necessary to have a monitor mode, they should also add in a speaker phone too. Just being able to hear the person doesn't always work for me (unless of course I am on hold for customer service for my satellite dish, but at least my call is important to them).
The main concern for me about this particular phone is its battery life. It seems before you really have the chance to use this phone the battery is done. I have found that over time as well the phone battery life becomes shorter and shorter. While this is true for all cordless phones it seems more excessive on the EXV98.
While this phone has its advantages I would not recommend it to a friend. There are other phones that have these or similar features and can last for longer periods of time.
