| carnal_c30's Full Review: Nokia 8890 GSM Cellular Phone |
When I first saw it, I knew I had to have it- the Nokia 8850 (same phone, just not tri-band) because I'm over here in Asia. I purchased this phone for 22000 NT, or about $690 over five months ago. First of all, the casing is quite sensitive to any rough treatment, my phone's rear battery cover just slides off without the button being pressed to release it. The screen is easy to scratch, as with any phone, but with a 700-800 dollar phone, couldn't Nokia afford scratch-proof glass? Other features are wonderful, battery life is amazing, when i first purchased it it would go 3 days without charging but now its down to about two and a half. The reception is great though I have noticed that reception goes down when a finger is placed on the back of the phone where the antenna is. The white light is just the coolest thing ever on cell phones, and the slide open/slide close, pick-up/hang-up feature is really convenient. The sliding cover is not so slick with its movement, it seems as if it cost about a dollar. Its movement isn't perfect and smooth, it slid a bit to each side and doesn't have the feeling of a precision constructed device.
If you're looking for a sensible phone go with the 8260, its not the coolest, or the most feature packed but it is small, and basically uses everything from the 8890 except the casing and lights along with the tri-band function. Over here in Taiwan, for about $40 US, the casing and the white lights can be purchased to basically turn the 8260 into a 8890. I personally will purchase the 8890 when I return to the States because I travel a lot and need the tri-band capability. If this isn't needed, its pointless to buy the phone unless you have an extra $800 burning a hole in your pocket. Go with the 8260, 1/4 the price of the 8890.
