I bought, DSS 500 system in Dec. 99 and since then it is been great, I have better sound and picture then the cable system I had from AT&T.
They (DISH NETWORKS) had to give me an extra Dish because all the channels were not coming on one Dish. I use the Dish to watch mostly Hindi channels. The remote controller works thru out the house even from the other side of the walls. I have setup various Timers on the controller so I don't miss any of my fav. show.
The remote uses 4 AAA batteries and seems to be running out often I have changed it twise since I owned it.
The only thing i didn't like the product is the look of it, it looks kind of bougs that is why I have it hidden in a closet. Overall it is cool.
I would recommend buying the product.
