Buyer Beware! (Reply to this comment)
by skcagigas
I just read your comment and I am not quite sure why you did not read the contract? If the contract states "free nights & weekends", then you should get that. If that was a lie then you should of taken the contract and the non-caller id phone back to the guy who sold it to you and told him to cancel it out. All phones are caller id capable. Maybe you should not buy things from guys who hang out in malls! He is there to make a buck. The staff at the main Alltel are trained to help you, the resellers are just there to get a buck. Sounds more like you got screwed from a reseller not Alltel.

Wireless Dealer is the problem (Reply to this comment)
by zell_jason
It seems that the root of goosems issue with Alltel is that the phone was purchased from a Wireless Dealer at the mall. These dealers "sell" a wireless company's service; but their own equipment. The original problem was with the Caller ID not working on the phone, which is very possible since not all phones are Caller ID compatible. All Alltel Retail locations, including Wal-Mart locations, sell nothing but Caller ID compatible equipment. Some dealers continue, to this day to sell non-compatible equipment to their customers. The other, and probably most important issue, is the problem with the bill and the nights and weekends. Unfortunately, a dealer may sell several different wireless company's services and more often than not, they are not at all knowledgeable about the products they sell. These dealers do not adequately explain the details of the billing and how it will look, including the dreaded "first bill proration" plus an activation fee, which most any company will charge, nor do they keep up with current promotions and plans as they should. Basically my recommendation is to not use any wireless dealer such as "Joe's Phones and Pagers" or "Wireless Retail" or even "Radio Shack". I would say this strategy would hold true for any service that you purchase, whether it is cellular service or even satellite TV. In addition, always read any terms and conditions and ASK questions. Ask a lot of questions. Ask about first month cost, coverages, roaming fees, etc. You are buying a service from someone who in all honesty is probably trying to meet a quota for sales and is more interested in getting you signed up and out of there so he can sell to someone new. Make sure your contract states all that was agreed on with the sales rep. At least this way if you have a problem, you can reference your copy of the contract and the issue can be resolved more easily.
