I chose Pac Bell service because there are no roaming charges anywhere in California and I spend a bit of time back and forth between LA and SF. My phone bills are always within the set plan amount because I never have to pay roaming. And the service has been fine: my phone rarely goes out (on the bridge nor in tunnels like some friends) and when I wanted to change plans it was as easy as a 5 minute phone call. I've had the service for 2 years now and don't plan to switch.
