Tin Can

I just had a CDM-7861 fitted to my Mercedes 300 coupe and it sounds really bad, like a tin can. Can anyone confirm if I have to have special speakers fitted or kit. The original Becker that came out sounded better, but didn't have a CD. That's why I changed it. They are now trying to tell me at Auto express that I need a sub woofer. This can't be right. I have had Alpines before with no problems may be it is the acoustic quality of the car, or could I have a faulty player. I am supposed to write a hundred words but I've only just purchased the player so it is hard to find more to say, but there again I just did.
