| TheNihcman's Full Review: Sony Glasstron |
Being a big fan of Sony Technology, Minidiscs, Portable Televisions and now, Glasstron’s have become a part of my daily life. I purchased the PLM-A35 a few weeks ago, after testing one that my friend owned. I decided to shell out the $450 on eBay for a variety of reasons.
First, I was marvel at its clarity. The fact that there are 180,000 pixels really gives the impression that you have your own private projection television. Since I didn’t test it out with anything other than a DVD player, and a Satelite dish, I cannot tell you how the clarity will be on an analog input (e.g. cable, regular tv, vcr’s, etc.)
Next, was its portability. I shelled out $120 for a portable battery and charger, so I wouldn’t have to be plugged into an outlet. The Lithium-Ion battery is worth the money; It’s so much nicer when you don’t have to be stationary because the cables are constricting you. Then, I got the Sony Portable DVD Player, so I can go anywhere and watch anywhere. Also, the fact that it wraps around my head gave a very snug fit. To explain the size of it, I wear a 7 3/8 fitted hat. Also, unlike stereotypes that say that technology is too big and bulky, the Glasstron weighs only 3.5 ounces. I even used it on the airplane when I went to San Francisco. I brought the Glasstron and a DVD player, because I refused to see Galaxy Quest with the others. Also, what I did on buses, when I got bored, was I kept the DVD player in my backpack, and put on the Glasstron. Since you can see out at the edges, I saw the odd looks people were giving me, but I didn’t care… I was having a more enjoyable bus ride.
Also, there were built-in headphones attached to the side of the headset. They were very helpful, because I didn’t have to lug around a pair of earbuds or headphones. The sound from them is “HiFi Stereo,” which doesn’t sound like my 7.1 sound system at home, but it sounds like four-channel stereo (Front L/R, Rear L/R).
Don’t be skeptical that such a great product is going to cost you thousands of dollars; it’s very affordable for such technology… You can get one anywhere for under $500.
