| RedLazarus's Full Review: Aiwa NSX-AJ10 Digital Audio System |
I bought this Stereo for my room, because I used to have a small boom box and it just wasn't doing it for me. Sound power wasn't an issue with my, because my room is pretty small and I don't listen to music very loudly. This Aiwa system was exactly what I was looking for.
First of all, the pros. This system has a 3 CD changer, 2 cassette decks (1 that can record), and the all-powerful Auxiliary port. The Auxiliary port was very vital in my decision, because I knew I would eventually want to use those speakers for something, be it a VCR, DVD player, or perhaps someday a Playstation 2. Having an auxiliary port might not seem important now, but I really recommend that when you buy any stereo try and get one with this feature. The other things I knew I wanted were a remote control, and the ability to play CD-RWs. The remote was the main reason why I wanted a new system in the first place, and the ability to play CD-RW's saves me money so I don't have to waste another blank CD every time I find a new song I want to hear in my room. Other features are a port for Optical CD output (for DAT tapes, or a Minidisc player), radio with 32 presets, and of course bass boost and 3 equalizer settings.
The remote for this system is a piece of cake to use, every button is labeled for it's main use as well as it's secondary use, which can be accessed by holding the shift button. It's as simple as that. The Optical CD output plug works perfectly, just plug it in and you're good to go. And the radio is as good as any, and 32 presets is more than enough for what I'll need. Bass Boost and the equalizer are nice additions, although I never really use them so I wouldn't consider them a necessity on any system. This unit also has a clock when it's not being played, and 3 different eco-friendly settings. As for those bonuses that you only realize the convenience of after using the unit for a week, this model's remote has instant access to any track number 1-9, and a +10 button for tracks beyond that. And you can also change 2 of the CDs while the 3rd one is still player, so you can always have the music playing.
There aren't many down points to this stereo, but the only ones I can really think of are the semi-weak speakers (which are fine for me, or anyone using this system in a small room) and the fact that it does seem to take more time than usual to start playing a CD. Those are certainly tolerable flaws, and overall I recommend this stereo for anyone who wants a simple sound system without having to spend a lot of money. Definitely worth every penny.
